Laser Skin Treatment Results
What is Skin Pigmentation
Skin Pigmentation is extremely common and most often caused by the sun. It can also be due to hormonal factors, injury and aging.
Laser skin pigmentation treatments can be effective at the removal of freckles, age spots and liver spots, that normally contain high levels of melanin (pigment).
What are Vascular Lesions
Vascular lesions can develop with age or overexposure to the sun. Small capillaries in the skin can become dilated and spread out like thread/spider veins or give the appearance of red spots
Skin Redness is a common issue and can be caused by rosacea, sun damage and aging.
Vascular laser treatments can help to destroy small blood vessels close to the skin through heat treatment. The reduction in blood flow to the area can visibly diminish redness.
How do Laser Skin Treatments Work
An intense beam of light is directed onto the skin and absorbed and turned into heat which has the required effect on the target cells. After the treatment there may be:
- Skin discolouration – red or pink
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Hyper or hypo pigmentation
The possible side effects will depend on the treatment regimen required and will be discussed at the initial consultation.
The laser uses a dynamic cooling device where the upper layers of the skin are sprayed with a cooling burst of cryogen within milliseconds before and after each laser pulse. The dynamic cooling helps ensure that the laser skin treatments are as comfortable as possible for our clients.

PRE & POST TREATMENTS INSTRUCTIONS
PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
- Avoid sun exposure 4-6 weeks before and after treatment.
- Advise us if you are using any topical medications or skin care products 3-5 days prior to treatment, as we may need to ask you to cease them prior to treatment.
- If you have had a history of perioral or genital herpes simplex virus, we may recommend a prophylactic antiviral therapy. Call us if you have any questions about this.
- RECENTLY TANNED SKIN CANNOT BE TREATED! If treated within 2 weeks of active (natural sunlight or tanning booth) tanning, you may develop hypopigmentation (white spots) and this may not clear for 2-3 months or more.
- The use of self-tanning skin care products must be discontinued one week before treatment. Any residual self-tanner must be removed prior to treatment.
POST TREATMENT
- Immediately after treatment, there should be erythema (redness) and oedema (swelling) at the treatment site, which may last up to 2 hours, or longer. The erythema may last up to 2-3 days. The treated area will feel like a sunburn for a few hours after treatment.
- A topical soothing skin care product such as post laser aid or post sunburn cream/gel may be applied following treatment if desired.
- Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation (darker pigmentation).
- Use sunblock (SPF 30+) at all times throughout the course of treatment.
- The treated pigment will appear darker immediately and within the first few days following treatment. The darkened pigment will flake off like dry skin within 7-10 days. Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin.
- There are no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently, as if you had a sunburn, for the first 24 hours.
- Call RR Rejuvenate with any questions or concerns.
- Your skin should be completely clean and dry prior to treatment. Remove or omit application of any skin care products on the day of treatment.
- AVOID THE SUN – The area to be treated should not be exposed to sun 4- 6 weeks prior to treatment. If you are in the sun during this time you should defer treatment until a later date.
- Treatment of tanned skin may cause blistering or possible hypopigmentation which may last for 3-6 months.
- Avoid using tanning creams, spray tans, or any type of temporary pigmented creams prior to treatment.
- Patients who have a darker Fitzpatrick Skin Type (V-VI) may have an increased risk of
hypopigmentation (white spots) or hyperpigmentation (dark spots). Consult your provider. - Patients with a history of the following conditions may not be good candidates for laser treatment and require an in-depth consultation with us prior to treatment:
- Diabetic patients or patients with poor circulation
- Patients who have a history of poor healing
- Patients who take a blood thinner, such as coumadin or aspirin
- Patients who are taking high doses of iron may have an increased risk of hyperpigmentation.
- Patients typically tolerate this procedure well.
POST TREATMENT
- The heat from the laser pulses may be slightly uncomfortable during and immediately following treatment. Cold gel packs/ice can be applied to reduce discomfort.
- You may also apply ice and elevate your legs to decrease discomfort, especially when large areas are treated.
- Paracetamol is recommended for any pain, as needed.
- AVOID THE SUN-completely after treatment to reduce hyperpigmentation. Use an SPF 30 sunblock.
- Gently moisturize daily.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours after treatment.
- Wait at least 8 weeks before the next treatment as resolution of the vessels continues throughout this entire period. You may have to wait even longer between treatments depending on results.
- Your leg veins may appear bruised or darker red following treatment. This discoloration will fade over the next few weeks. Brown discoloration may take several months to fade.
- Consult RR Rejuvenate immediately if you experience increased pain, redness, swelling or blistering.
- Dermaid may be used to reduce inflammation/urticaria for 1-2 days.

- The use of self-tanning skin care products must be discontinued one week before treatment. Any residual self-tanner must be removed prior to treatment.
POST TREATMENT
- Immediately after treatment, there may be mild erythema (redness) and mild oedema (swelling) at the treatment site, which may last up to 2 hours, or longer. The erythema may last up to 2-3 days. The treated area may feel like sunburn for a few hours after treatment. Some patients note that their skin feels pleasantly warm after treatment.
- You may resume the use of your usual skin care products immediately. It is advisable to wait > 48 hours to resume use of Retinol if applicable. If using L-ascorbic acid serum it may tingle on the skin in the first 48 hours. Makeup may be used after the treatment as long as the skin is not irritated.
- Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation (darker pigmentation).
